Newman has written a beautiful character in Hildie Bitterpickles, and pulls in characters from fairytale favorites. Newman’s ability to bring new imagination and life to older characters is a great feat that she accomplished in a way that seems like it’s her second nature.

The illustrations done by Chris Ewald are some of the most beautiful I’ve seen. His pictures portray an innocence that is forgotten with age, and to open this book and see them, brings about a sense of nostalgia you won’t want to lose.

I took this book to my church and shared it with some of our pre-school and kindergarten aged kids and they LOVED it. Everyone wanted their own copy 🙂
